Marathon!

Wed, 05 May 2010 17:18:59 EDT

This Saturday is the End of Semester Marathon, taking place in B&H 190 as usual from 2PM until 2AM - we've got an excellent lineup, and, as usual, there will be food at 7PM - we'll have sushi, and I'll be making Japanese curry. Note that the room is in use until 2PM, so Totoro will start at 2:20PM; otherwise, everything begins on the hour.

Totoro's classic, and if you only come to one thing (and not just for the food!) come see the Evangelion movie, an updated, completely re-animated version of the start of the series (in high definition!). BakaTest has a special place in my heart, and not just for Hideyoshi's gender-ambiguous charms; Durarara!! is the only show this year featuring a headless horsewoman; Black Lagoon is the story of a salaryman who joins up with pirates in the south seas and fights the occasional machine-gun wielding maid. Gundam Unicorn is the latest chapter in the revered mecha series, and Canaan is a tale of synaethetes and conspiracies.

NOTE: Earlier the title of the Evangelion movie was incorrectly listed as You Can (Not) Advance. That is the title of the second one; we will be showing the first, so you may enjoy it whether you have seen anything before or not. Apologies for the confusion.

It's a great lineup, and I hope to see you there! 無

Working!!

Sat, 01 May 2010 15:06:21 EDT

Sorry for the late announcement, but today we'll be showing more Escaflowne and Working!!, a show about a family restaurant and the crazy people who work there. It's my pick for the new season and I'm sure you'll enjoy it.

See you in B&H 190 at 7PM! 無

Hetalia World Series

Thu, 22 Apr 2010 21:32:57 EDT

Hetalia has a new series of regular-length episodes. I know you want it. We'll show three. Will Sealand be in them? I certainly hope so.

We'll also show Escaflowne episodes thirteen and fourteen, where our heroes, freed from their unjust imprisonment, go on to fight the evil Dornkirk Empire, and Hitomi's visions get... stranger.

What the hell is that?

Find out Saturday at 7PM - see you there! 無

Heroman and Cencoroll

Fri, 16 Apr 2010 00:50:26 EDT

What if there was an anime about America?

What if it was based on an idea by Stan Lee, the creator of Spiderman, but made entirely in Japan?

This would be that show. And it is epic. While at the convention in Tokyo I saw people carrying bags emblazoned with this around; little did I know it would premier on my birthday. But now I know. And knowing is half the battle.

I will also be screening Cencoroll, an nearly one-man effort about shape-changing blobby aliens best described as "glorious".

It asks the question, "What would happen if high school students had control of large, hungry, shape-changing aliens?" It also answers this question at reasonable length, involving automobiles, stapler guns, and puddings of unusual size.

Please, please come this weekend. This is prime stuff.

All this and Escaflowne (now in better quality), Barus & Holley 190 7PM Saturday. 無
