Brown Anime Society http://dampfkraft.com/bas/ The new and happenings of the Brown Anime Society Fri, 05 Mar 2010 23:34:16 +0000 Fri, 05 Mar 2010 23:34:16 +0000 Hanamaru Kindergarten http://dampfkraft.com/bas/index.cgi?c=_hanamaru_kindergarten This weekend we've got Hanamaru Kindergarten, the latest Gainax show about schoolchildren and love interests that are sure to make the more faint-hearted of you uncomrtable. Also, as has been extensively noted, the children are shaped like pears. If you are disturbed by pear-like children, please do not come. Furthermore, please remember Saturday is also RAC - the RISD Anime Convention. Go! Besides that it's not too long before our mid-semester marathon, so start thinking of things you'd like to see. A current likely candidate includes more of BakaTest, which is developing wonderfully. #x7121; Fri, 05 Mar 2010 18:27:09 EST Katanagatari http://dampfkraft.com/bas/index.cgi?c=_katanagatari Howdy, folks; this week we'll be continuing Escaflowne, showing another episode of Zetsubou Sensei, and showing the first (hour-long) episode of Katanagatari, a beautifully animated show with an interesting premise. Based on a series of twelve light novels, Katanagatari centers on a tactician in the employ of the Shogunate, the daughter of a traitor to the same who gave up her name in order to seek revenge by serving the very target of her vengeance, and the son of the man who killed her family, himself the current master of the school of swordsmanship that doesn't use swords; he's a bit odd on account of living in exile on an island with nobody around but his father (recently deceased) and sister his entire life. The girl also has a magic eye (unexplained) and the fellow's hair looks like a leaf from all angles. It's a lovely show, and well worth a watch. At the screening I'll also discuss travel arrangements to Boston Monday to see Summer Wars at MIT. See you Saturday! #x7121; Fri, 26 Feb 2010 14:37:05 EST RISD Anime Convention: March 6 http://dampfkraft.com/bas/index.cgi?c=_risd_anime_convention:_march_6 RISD is having a convention on March 6th; details are available here. They're selling tables for very little money and they'll be screening Cowboy Bebop, Pokemon, FLCL, and Avatar - I strongly encourage you to go; I know I'll be stopping by, especially since the Met is close to Brown. Give it a look! #x7121; Fri, 26 Feb 2010 00:13:24 EST Durarara! http://dampfkraft.com/bas/index.cgi?c=_durarara! This week we'll continue Escaflowne, follow it with another dose of Sayonara Zetsubou Sensei, and end with the start of Durarara!, a show from the creators of Baccano! that's sure to win fans. See you in BH 190 at 7PM! #x7121; Fri, 19 Feb 2010 02:46:10 EST Summer Wars at MIT http://dampfkraft.com/bas/index.cgi?c=_summer_wars_at_mit Summer Wars, a film I would have shown already were it available, will have a special screening in MIT on March first; the film is not yet even in limited release, so this may be your only chance to see it for a while. Summer Wars is the latest film from the director of The Girl Who Leapt through Time, and involves a boy hired to pose as a fiance to a girl with a very intense extended family. The directory and producer will be present at the screening and available for questions afterwards. More information here. Our limited budget doesn't really have room to fund a trip like this, but contact me if you're interested in going and we can group up. I have regular Monday night commitments, but this is well worth evading them. Thanks to Josh Brown for informing me. UPDATE: Summer Wars has just swept the Tokyo International Anime Festival Awards, with The Time of Eve and Eden of the East also taking home prizes. Another reason to go to MIT! #x7121; Wed, 17 Feb 2010 12:21:48 EST
